Wherever Aparijita goes, embarrassment awaits her. Every movement of this person attracts criticism from various sections of the society because she is a transgender.
No matter how hard she tries to focus on her aspiration to become a dancer, her dream remains unfulfilled and her creative skills often go unnoticed. Unable to take any longer, she hopes that it’s high time the society accepts people as they are.
Before the curtains were drawn, Aparijita emphasises the need to embrace every transgender community and treat them with respect and dignity as it is not one’s fault to be born as a transgender.

The 15-minute-long playlet presented by Roopsha, a journalism student of St. Joseph’s College for Women, and her 11-member team conveyed a social message. She says it took about four hours for her and her teacher Bonica Das to come out with such a theme and prepare the team for the presentation that evoked an enthusiastic response from the audience. The divisional-level youth festival ‘Yuvajanotsavalu-2017’ brought out by the Youth Services Department gave several aspiring students from various government and private colleges to demonstrate their expertise in dance, music and drama, adding life to their creative ideas. Clad in traditional attire, Sarvani and Sirisha, students of Visakha Government Junior College for Girls, eagerly wait for their turn to perform a folk dance. “Avenue such as this would give a new exposure and help us prepare for the stiff competition ahead. As artistes, we learn to develop interpersonal skills and teamwork as well,” they say.
From solo classical dance to group dance, Carnatic music to skits layered with social messages and loads of humour, the festival gave a chance to about 200 participants from across the district. “Compared to Paderu, Anakapalle and Narsipatnam, there is a good turnout for the divisional-level contest held at Visakha Government Degree College for Women. The primary objective is to promote cultural talent among youth and create a stage for them to bring out their skills in diverse fields,” says A. Siri, CEO of SETVIS.
The winners of the contest will head to the district-level competition which is scheduled on September 22 in Visakhapatnam.
