The philanthropy, equanimity in the face of hardship and team-leading qualities of Vijay Nirman Company CMD S. Vijaya Kumar received encomiums at a felicitation to him on Sunday evening.

The felicitation was organised by Visakha Samskruthika Sabha Samakhya comprising 12 cultural organisations on his receiving the Construction Industry Development Council 2010's Vishwakarma Award for Excellence as Industry Doyen in New Delhi last week.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadguru Sivananda Murthy described him as a ‘karmayogi' and said he had been the recipient of the grace of almighty since he was spending his hard-earned money not on himself or for lavish living but on causes that benefited society. The felicitation on the day was not for the limited purpose for which the government had given him the award but for the other qualities.

Former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao called him a builder in every sense of the word and his greatest feat was bringing together the music sabhas in the city. He was also making efforts to revive the oldest one Vijaya Tyagaraja Sangita Sabha. “The music sabhas are being groomed as if they are their children,” he said praising Mr. Vijay Kumar and his wife Curie for their patronage of arts. Director of Centre for Policy Studies A. Prasanna Kumar said he being an evolved soul, professional excellence and social dimension were the facets of his personality. He inherited the spirit of service and sacrifice of illustrious persons of Andhra Pradesh.

Visakha Music and Dance Academy President C.S.N. Raju called him an excellent planner and builder with no place for compromise in his projects. In spite of setbacks in his personal life, he did not lose resolve and continued to play a significant role in society. VMDA Vice-President Vavilala Sitaramaiah said with his innovative skills he took the company to great heights. Even before Corporate Social Responsibility became a buzzword, he had focussed on a number of key areas. In his brief reply, Mr. Vijaya Kumar expressed his gratitude to the ‘guru parampara' beginning with K.Parvati Kumar. He had also learnt a great deal from his father-in-law M.R. Rao though their management styles differed. The excellence in the company was a result of team work. “The CSR is being taken up wholeheartedly and we enjoy doing it” he said adding appropriateness was the only criteria and there was no death of funds.
