March 19, 2015 03:56 pm | Updated September 27, 2016 04:01 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority is planning to develop five hills in the city, including Sitakonda – between Visalakshinagar and Visakha Valley School – VUDA Vice Chairman T. Babu Rao Naidu said.

The Sitakonda would have a township, an international school at the foothill and a greenbelt, similar to Kailasagiri, he said at a Meet the Press programme organised by the VJF here on Thursday. The actual plan of development would be known after the detailed project report was ready, he added.

Errakonda near Sujatangar is another hill identified for development. Of the five areas identified for development, the APIIC would take up three.

Mr. Naidu said that the identification of unauthorised layouts in addition to the 311 already identified was going on and it involved about 2,500 acres. The VUDA had issued notices to 37 of them. The exercise has been taken up following instructions from the Governments.

On housing for economically weaker sections, he said that in future projects options would include lottery. To ensure transparency an end-to-end software right from building plan approvals and layouts to monitoring progress of engineering works was being worked out.
