User charges to be collected in dustbin-free wards

June 07, 2010 12:29 pm | Updated 12:29 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

User charges will be levied for collection of garbage at the doorstep of residents under the ‘dustbin-free model wards' programme being implemented in six wards of the corporation on a pilot basis.

Announcing the decision on Sunday, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao said under the ‘dustbin-free programme' in Wards 6 to 11, an agency, Envirosez, was extended all support according to the MoU entered into. But the specified period came to an end and it was observed that user charges were being collected unauthorisedly even as corporation paid salaries to its workers, the Mayor said. The wages were supposed to be met from making manure.

Mr. Janardhana Rao formed a committee with the Additional Commissioner (general), the Chief Medical Officer (Health), the HRD Consultant and the corporators concerned on deciding the user charges so as to stop the payment by the corporation.
