Three more swine flu cases detected

Three cases of swine flu were detected in the city during the last few days.

The three patients, who had gone to the screening centre in the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases after suffering with severe symptoms of swine flu, tested positive.

They include one man who returned from the US recently, one in Pendurthi and one in the Mrs. A.V.N. College down area. The first case was kept under home quarantine and the other two were being treated at the Chest Hospital.

With the three fresh cases, the number of swine flu cases detected so far in the city has gone up to 10.

Four were detected in July and three in August. All these seven cases were treated.

Awareness campaign

District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini informed that an awareness programme for peoples’ representatives, like the Chairman of Zilla Praja Parishad, Mayor of GVMC, MPs, MLAs, Corporators, Municipal Chairpersons, Municipal Councillors, ZPTCs, and others is being held at the VUDA Children’s Theatre on Tuesday morning, followed by another one in the afternoon for the Sanitary Inspectors and other staff of municipal bodies concerned with public health.

The programmes were being held at the direction of Collector J. Syamala Rao.

Doctor Sridevi, coordinator for the swine flu cases, said the three patients were progressing well.

In addition to the eight screening centres functioning at the Chest Hospital, King George Hospital, NTR Govt. Hospital (Anakapalle) and hospitals of public sector undertakings, a few more were likely to be opened at the Community Health Centres and Area Hospitals.

On the incidence of two locals contacting swine flu, Dr. Sarojini said swine flu had spread to the community. Husband of the lady patient, near Mrs. A.V.N. College, had gone around some cities during the last one month and he was also having cold.

He is being treated now. The other case, a male near Pendurthi, had no travel history.
