Sudden vehicle checking catches citizens by surprise

The search triggered by suspicion of fake currency transportation

A large number of motorists were surprised to face an extensive check of their vehicles by the police on Sunday evening.

Those travelling in vehicles of all kind had to stop for a long time on the road before the police cleared them. “The long lines of vehicles stretched down to the Tycoon hotel junction from Siripuram as the policemen stopped and thoroughly checked every vehicle. No vehicle has been spared,” said a man who waited on this stretch in his car as he passed Siripuram junction around 9.30 p.m. The road was clogged with vehicles as the check was going on.

The presence of a few armed policemen among those searching the vehicles made people suspect that a big crime has been committed or that the police are searching for some hardened criminals.

At Siripuram junction, inspector of III Town Police Station K. Venkata Rao said it was a routine check being done on the instructions of Commissioner of Police T. Yoganand.

Before the vehicles were stopped and searched at Siripuram junction, police also conducted a search of passing vehicles at Jodugullapalem on the beach road around 7 p.m. The personnel involved in the search were from the Armed Police, traffic and crime wings of the city police at both places.

The searches were reportedly held on the suspicion of some people transporting fake currency.
