Students swear to stand by women

With a view to starting the New Year afresh and empowering women to defend themselves, Mother Charitable Trust administered oath to students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad Degree College to protect rights of women.

Organised as part of the year-long campaign ‘Sasakth Mahila Sasakth Bharat’, boy students lighted a bonfire and took an oath to extend support to women in all aspects to fight against violence, social injustice and all forms of exploitation near Gandhi Statue opposite GVMC here on Thursday.

Members of the trust said that it was one of the best ways to welcome 2015 and their mission was to empower women with inspiring lectures and building their confidence levels by training them in self-defence techniques.

Last year, the campaign touched 23 colleges across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts. “We have covered both colleges and high schools located in these regions. Next week, we will like to organise the session in Vizianagaram apart from GVP Degree College in MVP Colony,” said Vikas Pandey, founder-chairman of the trust.

With similar kind of events spread out for the entire year, the trust intends to bring in a change among 25 lakh students across Andhra Pradesh. ‘Andhra 5K Run’ in Vizianagaram, a workshop along with self-defence technique training at East Godavari and Kakinada are some of the programmes lined up early next month.
