March 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 18, 2016 02:47 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Four or five hills, including Sitakonda and Errakonda, have been identified for development, VUDA Vice-Chairman T. Baburao Naidu has said. A township and an international school at the foothill and a greenbelt on the lines of Kailasagiri were among the plans for Sitakonda between Visalakshinagar and Visakha Valley School, he told ‘Meet the Press’ organised by VJF on Thursday.

Errakonda near Sujatangar is the other hill identified.

However, the exact development planned would be known only after detailed project reports (DPRs) were prepared, he said.

The Collector had given 1200 acres and after excluding hills, lakes etc it came to 450 acres.

Of the five areas identified for development, the APIIC would take up three.

Mr. Naidu said identification of unauthorised layouts in addition to the 311 already identified was going on and it involved about 2500 acres. For 37 of them, notices were issued. The exercise was taken up following instructions from the government. The urban local bodies were being informed about the layouts.

Transparency

To ensure transparency an end-to-end software right from building plan approvals and layouts to monitoring progress of engineering works was being worked out.

For all the pending projects, timelines had been fixed, Mr. Naidu said exuding confidence that they would be completed as decided at a recent review by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

On housing for economically weaker sections, he said in future projects options would include lottery.
