For those residing in Srinivasa Nagar near Old Akkayyapalem, a plenty of interesting things lay in store. The members of the six-month-old Srinivasa Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association plan to roll out a bunch of service-oriented activities.
“Once the locality restores its lost glory which was affected by the calamity, we intend to take up a few initiatives involving colony people. A talent pool, a service hub, a library, women’s committee and a senior advisory committee are on cards. This apart, we would like to develop this neighbourhood as a model colony by taking up waste management,” says R. Ramana Rao, president of the association.
In future, a colony radio will be launched to smooth out issues pertaining to the neighbourhood. The residents want to keep a track of the existing advocates, doctors and other community helpers residing in the locality so that those who are in need of their services can avail the same in an organised format.

Using social networking platforms like facebook and YouTube, the association members also plan to train people in yoga and upload videos of various soft skill training programmes. “There are many talented people in the colony. Facilitating this kind of avenue will not only help them exhibit their skills but also reach out to those who are keen on getting trained in a range of short-term courses,” adds Dr. Ramana Rao.
