Man booked, adulterated turmeric seized

The City Task Force raided a flour mill, and caught a person, who was adulterating turmeric powder, here at Mulagada Housing Board colony in Gajuwaka area of the city.

The police found that the accused was mixing bran in turmeric powder. The police have seized 210 kgs of adulterated turmeric powder (seven bags each weighing about 30 kg), 30 kg of original turmeric powder and 120 kgs of bran.

The arrested person was identified as S. Apparao, resident of Gajuwaka. According to a release by the City Task Force, the accused has been running the "Vinayaka Floor Mill' at Gajuwaka on lease basis for the last five years. The accused brings turmeric rhizomes from the Madugula region, mixes it with bran in the flour mill and prepares adulterated turmeric powder.

Police said the accused also mixes a few chemicals to make the powder look more richer and brighter. The respondent has been selling one kg of turmeric powder at Rs. 30 per kg to a number of shopkeepers in the locality.
