Lawson’s Bay beach likely to get ready by September

Work on the new beach being developed at Lawson’s Bay is likely to be completed by September.

Levelling has been completed and marking of roads, development of the park, parking for vehicles and development of greenery should be taken up on priority and completed so as to ready it for inauguration by September, Municipal Commissioner M V Satyanarayana told officials. The development of the new beach has been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.13.34 crore. The expenditure is being totally borne by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust. A lion’s share of it, Rs.6 crore, goes towards diversion of the storm water drain from MVP Colony to Appu Ghar.

Coming up on five and a half acres of land, the landscaped beach will have a jogging track, amenities for visitors and ornamental lighting.

Work on the beach began more than one and a half years ago with a view to decongesting the Ramakrishna Beach, a must-see tourist destination.

Besides the park on Ramakrishna Beach too, greenery will be developed and play equipment provided and the park made attractive for children.

Also to make more people-friendly, hawker’s zones will be earmarked and the hawkers that sell various eatables shifted into them.
