It’s a special Friday for me: Sai Kumar

The actor to watch his son’s movie ‘Rough’ in his hometown.

This Friday (November 28) is a special day for actor Sai Kumar. His son and hero Aadi’s sixth film ‘Rough’ is slated for release all over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and he is upbeat about it.

Though Sai Kumar is satisfied with the performance of Aadi in the film and is confident about its success, he treads cautiously saying: “Ultimately, it’s for the audience to rate the film,” at a programme organised here on Thursday on the eve of the film’s release.

“The day also marks my father’s (dubbing artiste and actor P.J. Sarma) 60th year in the film industry and ‘Rough’ is Aadi’s sixth film. My father hails from Vizianagaram district and I will watch the morning show in my hometown,” says Sai Kumar, who has completed four decades in the industry, starting his career as a child artiste, dubbing artiste before going on to become a hero.

On Aadi’s association with the city, Sai Kumar said: “It was star maker Satyanand of Vizag, who honed Aadi’s acting skills at the Satyanand Film Training Institute. Satyanand had developed the ‘camera-friendly’ nature in Aadi. This is very important for all actors and there are occasions when even senior actors falter before the camera.”

“Though Aadi has matured as an actor, there is a lot of scope for improvement as there is no end to learning. After 41 years in the industry, I still feel I can learn a lot more. I would give six points on a 10-point scale,” he said when asked about his son’s performance as an actor.

Family film

His younger brother Ravi Shankar is a leading actor in the Kannada film industry. Asked whether they were any plans to produce a film with all in the family, “We do have such a plan and it should be bilingual in Telugu and Kannada,” he said.

On his dream role, Sai Kumar says: “Balayya Babu (actor Balakrishna) has plans to give me the role of ‘Duryodhana’ in his film. I am ready to do that role even on TV.”

He plans to foray into direction in future but his immediate plan is to get into active politics from January 2015. “I have already performed the marriage of my daughter and now Aadi’s wedding is fixed for next month after which I will concentrate on politics,” he says.
