A golden saree worth Rs. 1.50 crore was presented to the deity of Sri Kanyakaparameswari Devi at the 138-years-old temple located on the main road in old city area on Friday.
The saree was produced with the help of donations made by the devotees and weighed four kg. At a ceremony in the morning Governor of Tamil Nadu K. Rosaiah presented the saree to the temple authorities. He noted that Arya Vysyas have ensured annadanam in every temple which reflected their generosity.
Every Arya Vysya in the city has donated gold weighing one gram or more for the saree. The Vaibhav Jewellers prepared the saree, president and secretary of the temple committee N. Nookaraju and Y. Haranadh respectively have informed.

The ceremony started with taking out the golden saree and Utsav idol of the goddess on a procession. Later 200 women participated in a mass Sri Chakra Sahita Kumkuma pooja, conducted by R.B.B. Kumar Sarma. Later a huge number of devotees had a darshna of the deity in the golden saree.
Kankatala Mallik, Mattapalli Chalamayya, Grandhi Madhavi, Vinnokota Ramamurthy, W. Bhaskara Rao, M.S. Sitaramayya, Paluri Suryanarayana and others were present.
