Forest Minister visits zoo

Minister for Forests, Environment, Science and Technology Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy visited the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park here on Sunday.

The Minister walked around the chimpanzee, white tiger and giraffe enclosures and the Butterfly Park.

He appreciated the contemplative design and concept considered to redesign the park and inquired about the life-cycle of butterflies, the concept of nectar plants and host plants and also new animal exchange plans at the zoo.

Mr. Reddy spent sometime at the administrative wing and inquired about e-governance and zoo management and security systems that are in place and the further plans to establish CC camera surveillance across the zoo.

Zoo Curator B. Vijay Kumar explained all existing practices and progress of the park in terms of recent animal collection, successful wild dogs breeding centre, visitor amenities, pollution control, restoration of the park post-Hudhud cyclone and implementation of zoological information management systems and up gradation of zoo hospital.

District Forest Officers of Vizag and Vizianagaram, Rangers and Assistant Curators accompanied the Minister. the Forest Minister also addressed the Forest Range Officer trainees from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Uttharakhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He complimented the park staff and management for the upkeep of the zoo.
