A book titled ‘Quintessence of Upanishads’ by a practitioner is different because it also reflects his life experiences, former professor of Telugu K. Malayavasini has said while reviewing it.

Speaking at a programme to release the book on Sunday, she said the book by IPS officer S. Vasudeva Rao was simple in style and relevant as it carried the wisdom of our ancestors to the next generation. “It reflects the selfless nature of the writer who has made an effort of such a magnitude,” she added. “Upanishads are the essence of the Vedas and they are the guiding light for us to understand the Vedas,” retired Sanskrit professor G. Akkubhatla Sarma said.

“Our view of the sun is limited by the channel we use to view it, and that does not mean the sun is so small,” he added, explaining the vastness of knowledge.

“Upanishads are the scriptural foundations of our philosophy,” former Rector of Andhra University A. Prasanna Kumar said in his presidential address. He complimented the author for his efforts in explaining the Upanishads in a succinct form. The author, in his response, said that he had been trying to explain the philosophy of the Upanishads on the micro-blogging site Twitter. This would help more people access it and appreciate the wisdom of our civilisation.

He termed the book a primer on Upanishads and hoped that it would inspire others to study the Upanishads and appreciate them. President of Vintage Visakha Y.V.S.R. Murthy and a host of persons from all walks of life were present.
