Drill on apprehending a terrorist

An impressive drill on terrorist intrusion into Visakha Container Terminal Private Ltd (VCTPL) was conducted on Monday as part of annual ISPS security audit of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust.

Teams from CISF, State Police Bomb Disposal Squad, VPT fire brigade and medical emergency staff participated. As per the scenario created, a terrorist approached from Mooring Gate of VCTPL on the Outer Harbour to destroy port infrastructure.

Security guard on-duty upon sighting the terrorist, the emergency response procedure was activated. The emergency siren was sounded and all the employees were confined to closed rooms to reduce human loss. The Chief Operating Officer, VCTPL, who acted as the Chief Emergency Controller, took the command. External help was sought from the State police and the CISF authorities of the port.

The Armed Emergency Response Team of CISF strategically apprehended the armed terrorist and took him into custody. The police team searched the area with the help of dog squad.

The details of the procedure — how to deal with such situations — were explained by the State police and the CISF to the employees. The entire exercise lasted about 30 minutes.
