Directive to officials on borewells

Move to check commercial exploitation

In-charge Municipal Commissioner M. Krishna Murthy on Wednesday directed officials to strictly implement the provisions of AP Water, Land and Trees Act (WALTA Act) to prevent unauthorised digging of borewells for commercial exploitation of water. Such bores would be seized and penalty levied, he warned. One borewell was seized at Sivasaktinagar on Wednesday.

Tanker facility

At a meeting with officials, he instructed officials not to supply water in the ‘Dial-a-tanker' facility to hotels and other commercial establishments. Utilising the Rs.5 crores sanctioned by the government and the funds of the GVMC new borewells should be sunk and old ones repaired.

When contractors said that bills were pending with the corporation, he said that some amount was released to enable payments.
