The mandal which is frequently affected badly by floods in the district is Devipatnam. Whenever there are floods, people of the mandal lose communication with other mandals for at least 10 to 15 days.
It happened again and most of the villages in the mandal were marooned following floods to the river Godavari for the last four days. With great difficulty, local MLA K. Kasi Viswanath and ITDA and revenue officials were able to reach 60 per cent of the villages.
According to Mr. Kasi Viswanath, Kondamodalu, Talluru, Katchabalusu, Papidipalli, Manturu, Moolapadu, Agraharam, Devipatnam, Veeravaram Lanka, Poodipalli, Posammagandi and Gonduru were badly affected during the flash floods.

Rice distribution
The State government made arrangements for distribution of 20 kg of rice and two litres of kerosene to each family and the mode of transport is only country boats. “We are providing basic needs to the flood victims. It will take one week to ten days for returning of normalcy in Devipatnam Agency,” says Mr. Kasi Viswanth. There were three major breaches in Devipatnam mandal. Major link roads connecting at least 30 to 40 villages developed breaches during floods last time and restoration work is in progress.
The MLA has asked the officials concerned to send proposals to the government for laying six major roads and two anicuts.

The proposed works include roads between Mohanapuram in Ganagavaram mandal and Dhanyampalem in Addateegala with Rs.5 crores, Yellavaram and Matlapadu in Addateegala with Rs.3 crores, Jaddangi and Donelapalli with Rs.3 croes.
Two anicuts -- one at Gangavaram mandal on Maneruvagu and the other at Kindra in Rajavommangi mandal with Rs.5 crores – have been proposed.
