K. Sasi Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Paderu), an IPS Officer of the 2012 batch, was found dead in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in his temple on Thursday morning. While some say that he had committed suicide by shooting himself with his handgun at his residence, the police claim that the weapon went off accidentally when he was cleaning it.

A gunshot was heard around 6 a.m. at the ASP’s residence on Thursday. He was rushed to a hospital at Paderu, where he succumbed to his injuries a little later. The police found bullet injuries on the victim’s head.

“The bullet went off when the ASP was either checking it or cleaning it. The doctors at the local hospital found that his pulse was down and were preparing to give him blood, when he succumbed to his injuries. He was shifted to the King George Hospital (KGH) in the city for post-mortem,” Superintendent of Police (Visakha Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma said and added that a full-fledged inquiry was required to ascertain the cause of death.

Sasi Kumar, who had assumed office about six months ago, was said to be an efficient officer. He was engaged to get married in December, according to sources. Though the police have not found any suicide note, they suspect it to be a case of suicide. The matter was reported to Deputy Inspector General (Visakhapatnam Range) Ch. Srikanth.
