Congress MLA decries diversion of trains

‘Four new trains will not touch Vizag station'

Visakhapatnam South MLA and Congress leader Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao criticised the decision of the railways to divert old and new trains from the main railway station to Duvvada.

In a letter to Divisional Railway Manager D. Kamilla, he said even after huge investment in construction of two new platforms in addition to the existing six at the Visakhapatnam railway station, trains were being diverted to Duvvada via Simhachalam North without touching the main station.

“I understand that four new trains which are being introduced shortly are also diverted to Duvvada in addition to the existing trains,” he stated and pointed out that the East Coast Railway had spent Rs.50 crores recently on development works such as installation of route relay inter locking and non-inter locking works along with construction of new platforms.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao wondered why huge money was being spent on the main railway station when there was no intention to bring trains the re. He was under the impression that more trains would be routed to the main railway station due to the ongoing development works but there was no such sign as of now.

The MLA said the commuters were not happy with the attitude of the railways towards their needs.

The objective of developing the main station would be defeated if trains were diverted to Duvvada and if the approval of Railway Board was required to make the trains run from the main station, the railway officials here could take the assistance of local MP and Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
