Challenging Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to prove where and when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was allocated 10 acres land in the State, party Central Executive member BV Raghavulu said the AP Government was not right in seeking 33,000 acres for the proposed new capital.

Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on Backwardness of North Andhra districts, problems and solutions, organised in Visakhapatnam on Friday by the CPI (M) as part of a series of seminars being conducted in the run up to the party’s 21 national congress scheduled to be held here in April, he questioned the logic behind the State Government seeking 33,000 acres for building the new capital.

The party is opposed to the State Government displacing farmers and taking over rich farm lands for building a capital, he said. A capital city does not need so much land and why should the Government turn into a realtor promoting speculation, he said.

The Telugu Desam Government should follow up with the Centre the implementation of provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, including special status, he said.
