A total of 239 employees of different departments in Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) were presented cash awards, amounting to Rs.1.67 lakhs, and merit certificates at the 55th Railway Week celebrations held here on Friday.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Ajeya Kallam, who participated as chief guest, gave away the awards.
Divisional Railway Manager D. Kamilla presided.

President of ECoR. Women's Welfare Organisation, Waltair, Rimjhim Kamilla participated as guest of honour.
Waltair Division recorded the best ever performance in a number of areas during the last financial year and received efficiency shields in nine different departments and also the ‘Overall efficiency shield' for 2009-10 at the Railway Week function held at the E. Co. R. head quarter at Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
A total of 44 employees of the Division were given cash awards at the Zonal-level by the ECoR. General Manager. Five employees of the Division have been selected for the Railway Minister's award at the National-level for outstanding services. The awards would be presented to them in Delhi on April 22, according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager H.L. Luwang.

The Division created new records in areas of both passenger and freight loading during 2009-10. It lifted 45.19 million tons of freight and carried 26.19 millions of originating passengers, registering a growth of 16.3 per cent in goods and 9.72 per cent in passenger volume over 2008-09. The Division posted a gross earning of Rs.3483.32 crores in 2009-10, which is 21 per cent higher than the earning in 2008-09. The operating ratio of the Division, which is the revenue expenditure over gross earning, also declined from 41.34 per cent in 2008-09 to 38 per cent in 2009-10.
On the passenger amenity front, Waltair Division spent Rs.15.10 crores last year, which is 54 per cent higher than the expenditure incurred in 2008-09. A number of new initiatives have been planned for the current year.
