There is a huge gap between the knowledge acquired at the academic institutions and the skills required by the industry. Bridging the gap is the order of the day and one should not miss the opportunities such as seminars and internships to pick up the skills required, said Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G. Nageswara Rao.
He was addressing the students at the one-day finishing school seminar on ‘Employment opportunities and employability skills’ organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Andhra University College of Engineering, here on Wednesday.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the young minds to hone-up both soft and technical skills.

Seven resource persons from various backgrounds addressed the students on various aspects such as entrepreneurship, employment and HR perspective, employment opportunities in government sector and how to prepare for various competitive examinations.
Talking to The Hindu , G. Gautam, founder CEO of Hyderabad-based Disha, said recognising the latent talent is important.
“Everybody is blessed with some talent and the early that one recognises, the better would be professional life,” he said.

Quoting his own example he said, “I am a student of history, but I competed with the software and students from engineering background to start my own company. I realised at an early age that I have the flair for training.”
He further went ahead to add that with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Start-up India’ initiatives, it is now easy to start a company, and the young minds should explore the option of entrepreneurship and give employment to jobless youth.
V. Hanuman Naik, Regional Employment Officer, Kakinada circle, came out with suggestions on how to prepare for the premier government entrance examinations such as civil services and AP Group services.
