State general secretary of AP Auto Drivers and Workers Vamana Murthy opined that banning autos will not serve the purpose.

“There are over 70,000 families in the district depending on the income generated from autos. If the government intends to ban autos or restrict their movement sizeably, an alternate source of income should be shown,” he said.

According to him, in the entire city only 5 to 6 per cent of the roads, including the National Highway have service road.
