Artisans' skill to the fore at crafts fair

Crafts persons from different parts of the country have displayed their skill and creativity at the All India Crafts Fair organised by Visakha Artisans Development Society at Viswapriya Function Hall.

The exhibition has a range of handlooms and handicrafts displayed at 150 stalls. “One can find the best of the products of India under one roof. And with festivals round the corner, the response has been good,” says Mohd. Nasim. Right at the entrance, there are the multi-coloured carpets from UP in different sizes. A range of ceramic potteries are tastefully displayed along their side.

One of the exquisite products is the Kashmiri items at a stall in the first row. The multi-coloured stoles, kurtas, dress materials and shawls bring a distinctive flavour of the region. The intricate works on the stoles and shawls are a masterpiece. Says stall owner Sajad, “This time we have selected the best among the items to suit the festive atmosphere. The range is better and brighter.”

For jute lovers, the stall of Rajendra Gupta from Delhi has several options of handbags. There are bags in bright floral prints on other fabrics as well, all ranging between Rs.100 and Rs.600. Fancy footwear from Kanpur are available at Rs.200. Sahranpur wood carvings, Bengal cotton sarees are some of the other stalls.

Colourful Kalamkari

Kalamkari with its lucid and colourful depiction of the epics and landscapes is the available in different varieties here. Materials in a range of soothing colours in soft cottons are available here. For the ensemble, check out the sarees and dress materials from Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Tamil Nadu and UP ranging from Rs.250 onwards and a blinding array of tops, skirts, chaniya cholis, bedsheets, and cushion covers. A colourful range of items like photo frames, files and gift boxes are on display here. Colourful tops and dress materials from Lucknow are available at the fair. Apart from this, the exhibition also has an array of handlooms like Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees, Venkatgiri, Narayanapet sarees, Kashmiri tops and embroidered sarees, ‘kurtis' from Jaipur, bedsheets from Haryana, rosewood carvings from Karnataka and dresses from Gujarat. The exhibition will be on till September 14 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
