3 budding singers to share stage

The Nightingale of Bollywood, Alka Yagnik, will be performing in the city on Saturday at the AU Convocation Hall for a fund-raising show under Rohit Memorial Trust’s Gyan Lakshmi Project. Three young budding singers from the city will get a chance to share the stage with her and showcase their musical talent on the occasion. V. Akhila, J.V. Srividya and Anuhya Vinjamuri, the top three winners of the ‘Voice of Vizag’ competition held to encourage local talent, will be performing with the Bollywood singer.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, G. Anantram, trust chairman, said the three winners were selected from 212 contestants. “Apart from getting a chance to perform with Alka Yagnik, the top three winners will be given a cash prize of ₹10,000, ₹7,500 and ₹5,000. This apart, in May the 20 semifinalists will perform for a show on the best of A.R. Rahman,” he said. The proceeds from the show will go towards the ‘Gyan Lakshmi Project’ which works for cancer survivors and women’s health issues, particularly in rural areas.

The show will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane and Alka will perform more than 25 of her top hits and popular songs. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral H.C.S. Bisht will be the chief guest while the cream of the city and music lovers will enjoy the grand musical event.The show will begin at 7 p.m. at AU Convocation Hall on Saturday
