Chairperson of the A.P. Legislative Council Privileges Committee Pamidi Samanthakamani and members expressed their dissatisfaction over the officials neglecting MLCs and not according them the respect they deserve.
“MLCs are nominated to the House based on their vast political experience, but they are not even informed about the meetings of local bodies and other programmes where they could provide valuable suggestions and solutions to the problems raised in the meeting. Protocol is not being followed and the MLCs are not even getting a reply from the officials to their letters on the issues and problems of their departments.
They are in the dark about how the Central and State governments’ programmes are implemented,” Ms. Samathakamani observed at a meeting with district officials here on Thursday.

Collector N. Yuvaraj, Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police A.S. Khan, Vice-Chairman of VUDA T. Babu Rao Naidu, Joint Collector J. Nivas, and other district officials were present.
Other members V. Balasubrahmanyam, Vakati Narayana Reddy, Reddy Subrahmanyam, Chandrasekhara Rao and others pointed out issues regarding protocol, officials not responding to their letters, etc. and regretted that the gap between the people’s representatives and officials had increased. They wanted that the rules mentioned in the G.O.s regarding protocol be followed.
Mr. Yuvaraj explained that all the four MLCs in the district were being invited for every meeting.

SMSs were also being sent to them. The district, State, and National level meetings and programmes were being conducted without giving rise to any problem.
A Special Deputy Collector, along with a tehsildar and a deputy tehsildar, was stationed at the airport on protocol duty and the names of people’s representatives would be mentioned on invitations and foundation and inauguration plaques as per protocol, he said.
Petitions received from the MLCs and other people’s representatives would be placed online, he said.
