5 held on cricket betting charge

Five persons were arrested by the police on the charge of indulging in cricket betting. Giving details to the media on Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) S. Venkata Rao said four of the five accused hailed from a single family. The four accused, who were residents of the Allipuram area, were caught in a gambling case in the past too. The fifth accused was a native of Rajahmundry.

They took a flat for rent in Maharanipeta and were conducting cricket betting for the last few days. On a tip-off, the Two Town police caught the accused and recovered 43 mobile phones used for the purpose, two LCD TVs, four laptops, and Rs.32,150 in cash from them.
