48-hour folk dance programme

The VUDA Children Club and Vignan Educational Institutions will jointly organise a 48-hour non-stop folk dance performance from August 21 to 23.

More than 250 school children will participate and 18 folk art forms of Andhra Pradesh will be performed, according to VUDA Vice-Chairman B. Sreedhar. The event is being organised to tap and encourage the hidden talent of children and to provide them a platform to exhibit them. The non-stop performance will start at 4 p.m. August 21 and continues till 5 p.m. on August 23. The closing programme will be organised at Gurajada Kalakshetram at 6 p.m. on August 23. The 48-hour non-stop performance will be conducted at Children Theatre. Dance teacher of Vignan Schools S. Murali Babu will coordinate the performances.

Dhimsa, Jamukula Katha, Burra Katha, Chekkabhajana, Karrala dance, Tappetagullu, Kolatam, Jangamadevara, Veera natyam, Garagalu, Savara, Erukulasani, Karagam and other forms will be performed by the students. Entry is free. The students of Vignan Schools have already achieved an entry in the Limca Book of Records and Guinness Book of World Records by performing classical dances non-stop for 36 hours and 72 hours, according to a VUDA release. Their participation in all the state-level and international-level sports and cultural events taking place in the city, apart from the events such as VUDA Flower Shows, Visakha Utsav and the Children's Day and other official functions have earned them appreciation.
