The North Zone police on Friday conducted a special drive under four police stations and held 38 youths on the charge of eve-teasing.

Inspectors of the four stations — Kancharapalem, Airport Zone, Gopalapatnam, and Pendurti — and their men formed into 12 teams and the drive was conducted between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Plain clothesmen watched the youths at 12 important junctions and picked them up. The drive was taken up following instructions by Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy as a precautionary measure following the Delhi gang-rape.

Assistant Commissioner (North) B. Prasada Rao said the youths were counselled, considering it as the first instance. Their parents were also called to the police station and told to take care of their children in future.

Attacks decried

Meanwhile, students of SPACES Degree College, Payakaraopeta, criticised the attacks on women and expressed their anger over the brutal gang-rape and murder of 23-year-old paramedical student in Delhi.

At a programme held at the college, the students mourned the death of the Delhi student and demanded stringent punishment to the guilty.

They stressed the need to have a fast-track justice delivery system to conduct trial of sexual assault cases.

A formation of students in the shape of ‘We Want Justice’ was made on the college premises.
