Two persons were arrested by the Tagarapuvalasa police on Friday on the charges of raping and killing a 14-year-old girl at Peddipalem under the Tagarapuvalasa police station limits.

Inspector K. Kumara Swami said the body of the Class 6 student was found floating under mysterious circumstances in an agricultural well at Peddipalem on June 17.

During the course of investigation, the police came to know that the girl fell in love with Chukka Appalaraju (22), a lorry driver of the same village. After becoming pregnant, the girl asked Appalaraju to marry her. While declining the proposal, Appalaraju reportedly asked her to come to a garden near Peddipalem.

The girl went to the garden on June 17 and was surprised to see Appalaraju and his friend Ramana (20) waiting for her. She asked Appalaraju to marry her and threatened to inform her parents and the police of their affair if he did not oblige.

The duo then killed the girl fearing that she would report the matter to the police and threw the body into the well.
