The block grant of Rs. 292 crore sanctioned to the university, which was more than double the previous year’s Rs. 130 crore, would help Andhra University tide over its financial difficulties, Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju said here on Wednesday.
The university is also going ahead with filling 550 teacher posts since its financial position is looking healthy now. At present, the faculty strength is 450.
The university had gone through a very difficult period financially with Rs. 100 crore internally generated revenue coming to its rescue to an extent. With the increased block grant, it could now meet financial commitments such as Rs. 100 crore pension arrears, IR pending for two months, Prof. Raju said.

From next year, the block grant would be Rs. 192 crore, but it should be sufficient to meet the expenditure even after filling the teacher posts, the Vice-Chancellor said.
After completion of the next wage revision, the university has to seek additional amount of block grant.

The process of recruitment of teachers would be transparent. Interview would be videographed. A roster method was being evolved and it would be sent to the government for its approval. Job notification would be issued after receiving the approval, Prof. Raju said.
Regarding vacancies of non-teaching staff, Prof. Raju said the requirement had come down with several universities coming up in other districts and computerisation. Prof. Raju said the university community was thankful to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers — Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who pursued the university’s case, and Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu — and MPs and MLAs for helping the university get a good amount as block grant.
