In response to the call given by YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to lay siege at strategic points to the National Highways running across the State, party leaders blocked the roads here on Wednesday.

At Ramavarapadu Ring, YSR Congress Central constituency in-charge P. Gowtham Reddy blocked the traffic for about an hour from 10 a.m. Mr. Gowtham along with 30 other party workers were taken into custody by the police and later released.

According to him, in Krishna district the blockades were enforced at 35 locations.

The party’s city unit convener Jaleel Khan and his supporters blocked the NH at Gollapudi for a brief period. The attempts began at about 9 a.m. and continued till 12.30 p.m. in brief spells. Every time they attempted to do so the police forcibly cleared the road. On the occasion, Mr. Jaleel said that the bifurcation would be a bane for both the regions.

Former MLA and YSRC leader Vangaveeti Radha played his part at Krishna Lanka near Varadhi. He enforced the blockade for about 30 minutes and traffic came to a halt on both sides of the National Highway. To avert further damage, Mr. Radha and couple of his followers were taken into custody and later released.
