To address drinking water needs of stray animals, members of the city-based Indian Institute of Jeeva Karunya and Research on Sunday distributed cement containers to the local residents.
Sitting in front of the Nava Sahithi Book House near Ram Mandir on Eluru Road, their gesture of distributing the cement containers, both small and big size, attracted the attention of curious passers-by.
Handing them containers, they urged people to fill them with water and place them outside their houses, shops or other places to enable stray animals quench their thirst.

Founder president of the Institute M. Venkateswara Rao said like human beings, animals also feel the summer heat and need water to quench thirst.
He said the 60-odd members of the Institute had been given the containers.
Proprietor of Nava Sahiti Book House K. Ravi, who was present at the venue, said there was a need to create awareness among people on the needs of animals.

Lamenting what he called the ‘missing sympathy factor’ he said people should adopt a more compassionate approach towards animals.
He said media could play a vital role in spreading awareness on the issue of animal rights.
