Signals at places witnessing heavy traffic to be repaired

Stock-taking: The new system will be set up at the junctions where there was no signalling system so far.

In view of the increasing vehicular traffic in the city, officials of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and the City Traffic Police on Wednesday inspected the traffic islands at various important road intersections.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sravan Kumar along with Executive Engineer Uday Kumar and technicians from Efftronics inspected the junction of Mahanadu Road, Police Control Room, Ramavarappadu Ring Road, BRTS, Chittinagar, Sitara Centre, Swathi Centre, Gollapudi and other areas where heavy traffic flow had been registered.

The team took stock of the condition of the traffic signals at these junctions and made plans for new signalling systems accordingly. The new system would be set up at the junctions where there was no signalling system so far and the existing ones would be repaired at needed junctions.

VMC officials said recently traffic signals at 20 junctions had been repaired following the suggestions of the Municipal Commissioner and 12 more signalling systems would be repaired soon.

The Corporation has roped in organisations including banks, petroleum companies, advertising agencies and others, which would fund the signalling systems under the Corporate Social Responsibility.
