In a goodwill gesture, all members of the municipal council, Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas joined hands to help a four-time corporator Tajanoth Dasu to have a house, apart from extending financial support.
Mr. Dasu, now 74, has been suffering from ill health and poverty from the past many years. He was elected councillor from the divisions 1 and 3 in the West constituency on the CPI ticket. All the 59 corporators of the VMC and five co-opted members, irrespective of their party affiliations, contributed their one month’s salary and bought a house built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at NT Nagar and the same was allotted to Mr. Dasu by the Municipal Commissioner, following a request by TDP corporator Chennupati Gandhi. Also, the members presented him a cheque for ₹3.37 lakh.
“It is our responsibility to take care of sincere people’s representatives such as Mr. Dasu who has dedicated his life for public service. He has been ailing since many years and living a miserable life,” Mr. Sreedhar said.

Corporators G. Hari Babu, B. Punyaseela, G. Adilakshmi, Sk. Nazeer and others recalled how they grew up seeing Mr. Dasu going around the city on a moped for his work.
Mr. Dasu, in his brief speech, thanked the media and the council members and Municipal Commissioner for helping him. Mr. Dasu said that he had been confined to his house for the last five years due to health issues.
