Superintendent of Railway Police, Vijayawada division, Ch. Syam Prasad, has directed the Guntur Government Railway Police (GRP) to appoint a Child Welfare Officer (CWO) in the Child Assistance Booth located on Platform No.4 at Guntur junction.

Responding to the news item published in these columns on non-appointment of the CWO, Mr. Syam Prasad visited the station on Wednesday and held discussions with the railway authorities and the local railway police. “The Child Assistance Booth is located adjacent to the GRP station. We will hand over the booth completely to the child protection committee and the CWO would assist the children who are in need. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the police and pass on information to the CWO about harassment, child abuse, teasing, missing children, and runaway boys and girls on the railway premises,” he said.

Mr. Syam Prasad also brought the poor condition of railway police stations in Narsaraopet and Guntur stations to the notice of Guntur Divisional Railway Manager N.K. Prasad and appealed to him to take up repair works.
