Victoria Museum to get a Buddha statue

Speaking to The Hindu , on Wednesday, Archaeology and Museums Assistant Director K. Chitti Babu said that the statue would be handed over to the museum authorities by one P.S.P. Narendranath, a retired physical director from the city, who had bought it from Thailand.

“As he is not keeping good health, he felt that the museum would be the right place for the statue. We are planning to put the statue at a vantage point with proper illumination to attract the visitors,” Mr. Babu said.

Mr. Babu said that in the recent technical committee meeting of the Archaeology Department, it was decided to allot Rs.66 lakh for the development of Kondapalli Fort under the 13th Finance Grant.

“The committee also decided to allot Rs.13.5 lakh for the fortification of two temples at Aluru and Avanigadda in Krishna District”.

He said that the pending electrification works were taken up at the museum to improve the illumination inside.

“We have also sent proposals for the landscaping and sprucing up of the museum premises. We have brought to the notice of our higher-ups about the roof leakage,” he added.
