‘Those in the construction sector play a pivotal role in helping the poor realise their dreams’

Additional Joint Collector N. Ramesh Kumar on Tuesday said quality work and effective implementation of technological advancements must be the focus areas of assistant engineers and masons involved in construction of housing colonies for various government housing schemes.

Speaking after inaugurating a day-long workshop-cum-training programme for assistant engineers and masons working in the government sector at the sub-Collector’s office, Mr. Ramesh Kumar said the objective of the people directly engaged in the construction works must be to ensure quality work at prices affordable to the beneficiaries. He said the government had launched several housing schemes for uplift of the weaker and backward sections.

He said due to rapid escalation of the cost of construction, the authorities concerned were falling short of funds allocated for the purpose.

The assistant AEs and masons could make the best of the modern technological advancements in the construction sector to build quality units at an affordable price, he reiterated.

Andhra Pradesh State Housing Agency Hubtech Director C. Ram Kishan said assistant engineers and masons engaged in construction of the government-sponsored housing colonies could play a pivotal role in helping the poor and needy realise their dreams of owning a house.

Houses sanctioned to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes must be constructed in a similar pattern.

He said the focus of the workshop was to impart expertise to the masons and help them excel in their job. He wanted the fraternity to keep vices at bay and concentrate on their work.

He said the assistant engineers, the masons and the beneficiaries must meet before commencement of the works and the former two must motivate the latter to subsequently take up the responsibility of constructing toilets.
