Unity pledge administered to mark Patel birth anniversary

Students told to become part of swachh campaign

Students of Municipal High School at Patamatalanka taking unity pledge in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

Various State and Central government organisations on Tuesday observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and the staff administered unity pledge in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

At the Railway Mini Stadium, DRM R. Dhananjayulu, staff and schoolchildren took part in the celebrations. Dhananjayulu said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel pioneered the integration of princely States in the Indian Union.

The DRM received the guard of honour from the RPF battalion.

Retired station master P. Subramanyam was felicitated on the occasion. Later, they took part in the Run for Unity.

At the Patamatalanka Municipal High School, municipal officials led by Commissioner J. Nivas observed the unity day. Vijayawada brand ambassador and chess Grandmaster K. Hampi also took part. Mr. Nivas told the students to become a part of the Swachhate Seva programme and keep the school as well as their homes clean.

On M.G. Road, a large number of city police personnel took part in a march past. City Commissioner of Police D. Gautam Sawang took part and administered the unity pledge.
