The trauma care centre in the newly-constructed Podila Prasad GMCANA Government General Hospital is operational.

The new facility is located in the ground floor and is easily accessible to patients who just need to enter the main gate beside A.C College. It includes an emergency care centre, laboratory service and a CT scan facility.

Dr. Rao said all efforts were being made to make fully operational the super speciality units — cardiology, cath-lab, cardiothoracic surgery, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology and plastic surgery — located in the second and third floors.

“We are trying to make the four operation theatres ready by July. Principal Secretary, Health, M.V Subramanyam, recently visited the hospital and made some changes,” said Dr. Rao.

The 244-bedded centre was built on a Public Private Partnership with a major contribution by a US-based gastroenterologist Podila Venkata Prasad, who donated $ 1.57 million (Rs.5 crore), Government of Andhra Pradesh (Rs.10 crore) and donations pooled by the GMCANA (Rs. 20 crore).
