Traffic to be allowed on old bridge of Ryves Canal

February 23, 2012 04:22 pm | Updated 04:22 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Political parties and people's organisations have thanked the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation for taking a decision to allow traffic on the old bridge of Ryves Canal once the new six-lane BRTS Road being under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is completed at Madhuranagar.

On Wednesday, they met Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu and thanked him for taking the decision to allow vehicular traffic, particularly two-wheelers, on Narlavariveedhi, which connects Madhuranagar and the adjacent localities with Karl Marx Road.

Mr. Babu cleared the doubts of many on the diversion of traffic of small vehicles once the six-lane road was completed, and said no one would be put to inconvenience.

He clarified that the old bridge would not be closed down even after completion of the new bridge.

“As usual, small vehicles will be allowed on the left and right of the BRTS Road. It was announced earlier through the media,” he reminded.

It may be recalled that political parties launched a relay hunger strike demanding that the VMC not build a wall to prevent traffic from entering Machavaram and also on the diversion of the traffic on the left side of the BRTS Road towards Padavalarevu.
