The city traffic police have represented to Mayor Koneru Sridhar to develop traffic signals and junctions and improve roads to prevent traffic congestion and accidents.

The police team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) T.V. Nagaraju appealed to the Mayor to paint stop marks, zebra crossings, free-left signs, take up repairs for signals and improve roads in the city.

Of the 29 traffic signals available in the Commissionerate, as many as 23 were not working. At many junctions, there were no zebra crossing, vehicle parking and hawker zones and other facilities.

“We request the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation authorities to remove encroachments along the road sides, improve traffic junctions and paint markings at the centres to prevent road mishaps. Due to increase in VVIP movements and construction of Kanakadurga Flyover, traffic jams were occurring,” said Mr. Nagaraju.
