Ticket checking fetches Rs. 2.9 cr.

The Railway authorities registered 95,103 cases against the passengers, who were travelling without tickets and carrying un-booked luggage, and collected an amount of more than Rs.2.93 crore as penalty. As many as 113 passengers, who had failed to pay railway dues were prosecuted during a mega fortress ticket checking drive in Vijayawada Division in February. In addition to this a cleanliness drive was also conducted across the division and 1894 cases of littering in the railway premises were detected and an amount of Rs.3.78 lakh was collected as fines. Authorities said these checks would continue in the coming days also. They urged passengers to travel with valid journey tickets and help the Railways to keep the stations and trains clean, said a press release.
