Tenders for doubling railway line to be opened on Nov. 9

The long-awaited doubling of the Guntur-Tenali railway line and its electrification have been given the green signal.

The project has been entrusted to the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The RVNL has floated tenders, which will be opened on November 9, 2012.

The project is expected to be completed within two years of the finalisation of tenders, according to an official release by the Divisional Railway Manager N.K. Prasad.

He stated that tenders were invited for civil (construction of platforms and provision of amenities at stations), overhead electrification, and signalling (signal & telecommunications) in the section.

The announcement of doubling the 26-km railway line was made in the Railway Budget and the project was promptly taken up by the South Central Railway.

Record loading

Meanwhile, the Guntur Railway Division created a record by loading the highest number of goods rakes in a single day (on September 25).

A total of 362 wagons on 8 rakes (3 at India Cements Limited siding in Vishnupuram) and one each at Vishnupuram, Miryalaguda, Donakonda, and Nallapadu, and Container Corporation India depot at Guntur) were loaded on that day to carry 22,771 tonnes of cement, timber waste, railway material, and empty containers.

The freight charges fetched about Rs. 2.39 crore. The performance eclipsed the previous best of 341 wagons on 7 rakes carrying 21,734 tonnes of consignment loaded on August 4, 2010.
