‘Teachers must strive to make classroom vibrant’

Faculty development programme gets under way at SRKIT

Claire F. Komves, a professor of chemical Engineering, San Jose State University, USA, on Monday said it was essential for a teacher to make the classroom vibrant.

Ms. Komves, who is also and Board of Directors’ Secretary, Indo-Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE), was addressing the teaching faculty of SRK Institute of Technology, at the inaugural of a week-long faculty development programme on “Effective Teaching and Learning Methods.”

The programme is being organised by the Teaching and Learning Centre of the college and the IUCEE. Principal M. Ekambaram Naidu said the participants must make the best of such rare opportunities to hone their skills.

Structured agenda

In the programme, Ms. Komves will focus on certain teaching and learning methodologies such as the role and management of key components in the instructional process, how to create a vibrant classroom, design and deliver an effective lecture to ensure student engagement and motivation, develop a list of measurable outcomes, measure student-learning through direct and indirect assessment and develop and implement a programme assessment cycle.

She said besides enhancing their professional and communication skills, the programme would also help the participants develop new perspectives. Later, she inaugurated SRKIT Teaching and Learning Centre.

SRK Foundation Chairman B. S Apparao, secretary B. S. Krishna and head of the department of CSE D. Haritha were among those present.
