The Vijayawada railway station was abuzz with activity on Sunday even as the rail roko agitation being organised by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) entered the second day.

Railway authorities asserted that the activity at the station was normal. Except for trains bound to the State Capital, all other services ran as usual. The passenger train to and fro Kazipet plied as usual and it was the only exception on that route.

There was no change in the schedule of trains that were either diverted or cancelled. Baring those going to Secunderabad or Hyderabad, there was no fall in passengers turning up at the station.

With the cancellation of trains towards Secunderabad, the passenger traffic came down by about 20 per cent, the authorities said. With this, the rail link between Vijayawada and the State Capital continues to be completely snapped.

The South Central Railway cancelled all the five express trains bound to the State Capital – Secunderabad and Nampally — in view of the agitation demanding separate Telangana. The platforms buzzed with activity as a good number of passengers arrived at the station. The commuters going to long distances had harrowing experiences as the trains were diverted or cancelled. The passengers were seen resting on platforms waiting for the trains.
