South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager P.K. Srivastava said it was high time some Electrical Multiple Units (EMU) were introduced on the mainlines connecting Vijayawada with smaller stations like Mangalagiri, Guntur, Rajahmundry for better commutation.
Station buildings and other amenities are also being improved in the wake of the government firming up plans for construction of the Capital city.
Besides, arrangements have been made for running the proposed train between Vijayawada and New Delhi in a month and providing Wi-Fi facility at Vijayawada station.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Mr. Srivastava said the government was forthcoming as far as making land available and sharing costs of railway projects around the Capital were concerned.
He discussed with Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and other officials for executing the pending projects and things were expected to gain momentum with the government keen on establishing an multi-modal connectivity network in the State.
Mr. Srivastava further said there were plans for development of some small stations between Vijayawada and Guntur and Vijayawada and Rajahmundry as sub-urban stations in the near future in view of their importance for enhanced rail connectivity in the region.
Upgrading the circulating areas was also given due priority, the GM said and added that 35 per cent additional funding was given for passenger amenities.
