Samaikya stir: Krishna district suffers Rs. 200 cr. revenue loss

The Samaikyandhra agitation has led to a revenue loss of about Rs.200 crore in the Krishna district for the State Government.

With as many as 32,000 employees of various government departments and institutions taking part in the agitation, the administration has virtually come to a standstill in the district.

The employees of revenue-generating departments like Stamps and Registration, Revenue, Transport and Commercial Taxes and staff of institutions like the VMC and the Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA) are taking part in the stir since August 13. During the last 20 days, for instance, the Stamps and Registration Department has lost nearly Rs.25 crore in the district.

Likewise, the Transport Department suffered a loss of Rs.8 crore.

The transport authorities consider August as crucial month as the owners of lorries and buses renew the licences etc., sources say.

The VGTMUDA has incurred a loss of Rs.3 crore, while the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s loss is close to Rs.15 crore.

The Layout Regulation Scheme (LRS), permissions for layouts and buildings with height more than 12 metre are sanctioned by the UDA.

The VMC’s building plans, water charges, property tax collections, etc. have taken a hit with all its employees, including the revenue wing, participating in the strike. The NALA and water cess etc. collected at village level have also come down as the VROs in the Revenue Department are not attending to their duties. The APSRTC will incur a loss of Rs.1.5 crore every day. During last 20 days, the RTC incurred a loss of Rs.30 crore. The Commercial Taxes Department, a major revenue earning department, has suffered a big blow with the loss reaching Rs.48 crore.

The tax collections have come to a halt and total loss for the Government will be above Rs.200 crore.

There are 57 government departments in the district, of this, women and child welfare, forests, police, minority; BC, SC, ST welfare etc. are non-revenue generating departments.

The high-level officials, however, put part of the loss as imaginary and a temporary phenomenon. They are hopeful of reaching their targets by the end of financial year.
