Corporation earns ₹3.3 crore in a month during trial period

APSRTC Courier and Parcel counter opened in Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada.

Buoyed by the encouraging response to its parcel services, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has made big plans to achieve ₹100 crore revenue this year through parcel business, according to RTC Executive Director (Commercial and Projects) R. Sashidhar.

The corporation has earned around ₹3.30 crore in one month after operating the parcel business on its own on a trial basis. ANL Parcel and Courier Services was running the parcel business through RTC since 1985. On expiry of its contract in June this year, RTC has not called for fresh tenders, the ED told a media conference here on Wednesday.

Mr. Sashidhar said the parcel services would be monitored by two senior officers from Vijayawada, besides one officer and a couple of supervisors for each district.

An agreement has been reached with the AP Medical and Health Department for transportation of medicines from the Vijayawada Headquarters to various government hospitals and Primary Health Centres in the State. The buses would transport medicines worth around ₹10 lakh to various hospitals every month.

Four fire alarms were installed at different locations at the Dwaraka Bus Station (RTC Complex) by the Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam.
